ANACORTES SISTER CITIES ASSOCIATION

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

March 3, 2005

 

    President Duane Clark called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm.  He welcomed guests and new members. 

 

    Men from the An-Accord Men’s Quartet group began our meeting by singing, “Let There be Peace”, the official song of ASCA.  The men were:  John Parker, Mike Garrity, Steve Donnelly, Ken Howard, and their escort, Dan Dalby.

 

MINUTES:  Mark moved to accept the minutes of the February 3, 2005 meeting as distributed. Seconded by Suzanne. Motion carried.

 

CORRESPONDENCE: Duane read a letter from Peggy Geer in which she expressed her deep appreciation for the love and care of Doyle in his last days.

 

TREASURER:  Mark reported the following:

                   Checking Account Balance -  $1704.10

                   Savings Accounts:

                             Scholarship Fund             984.81

                             Kisakata Exchange             85.00

                   People-To-People Fund:

                             Checking Account          3890.46

                             Savings                            100.77

 

Significant Items:

  $1380 was paid for the adult group going to Kisakata.  The travelers will reimburse this money.

 

The Anacortes Arts Festival donated $100.00 as a memorial for Doyle. 

 

The total received was $700.00.

Dues received in February were $330.00.

Bills were paid and the membership in the Ethnic Heritage Council was renewed.

  Duane reported that the order for the Sister City flags, promised delivery in October, 2004, was not delivered. Mark received a refund of the funds paid for the flags, but it bounced. The company has indicated that a second check is coming.

 

VICE PRESIDENT:  No report.

 

SIDNEY:  No report.

 

KISAKATA:  Cora reported that the students are taking classes in language and culture of Japan. 

 

The adult trip plans are progressing. The scheduled trip is April 21 – May 2.

 

The Anacortes Youth Sports Coalition 13th Annual Dinner & Auction will be held March 19th, at 6:00 p.m.

Due to illness, the annual “Girls Day” event held by Setsuko Amburn will be delayed until April or May.

Duane read a letter from the Mayor of Kisakata who explained that the City of Kisakata has been consolidated with two other cities.They have been looking at this consolidation since 2002 and on October 1, it will be official. The “new” city is Nikaho Citywith city offices in Kisakata. We expect that our “sister city” relationship will continue with little change.

 

VELA LUKA: Nikki is still working on the Kumpanija dance group coming to Anacortes and the student exchange. 

 

  The annual “Croatiafest” will be held October 2, 2005 in Seattle.

  The 30th year of the “Patron’s Party” will be held on April 2 at St Mary’s Church – cost $40.00. Please contact Nikki and the ASCA e-mail address

 

LOMONOSOV: Suzanne reported continued work on the cookbook.  She has received a list of the Lomonosov adults that want to come to Anacortes next fall.

 

GOLF TOURNAMENT:  Duane reported the change of the name for the tournament to “Anacortes Sister Cities Association Doyle Geer Golf Tournament”.

He encouraged all to attend the Youth Sports Coalition Dinner that is a fundraiser.

A portion of the funds raised go to the golf tournament set-up costs, etc. 

He displayed samples of the new stationery that will also be utilized in securing golfers, hole sponsors and corporate sponsors.  The goal is: 128 golfers, 36 hole sponsors and as many corporate sponsors as possible.  He encouraged ALL MEMBERS to actively recruit participants.  Please communicate with Suzanne regarding any sponsorships or golfers.  David will prepare food for the tournament.  Suzanne has a list of businesses to contact. PROGRAM:  Duane introduced a Rotary sponsored program, “Rotary Dentistry in Guatemala”, Presented By Von and Betty Kuehn.
