ANACORTES SISTER CITIES ASSOCIATION

GENERAL MEETING

May 5, 2005

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:06 pm by president, Duane Clark.  He welcomed all and asked Doug Everhart to introduce special guest and speaker, Robert Geczi.  Duane presented Robert with an ASCA pin.

 

Suzanne Harris moved to accept the minutes of the April 7th meeting as published. Andy Hanson seconded. Motion carried. 

       

 Duane passed a picture of the presentation of a special pin presented to Jack Greenewald.  Mark, Don, Maria and Jack Papritz and Duane made the presentation to recognize his many years of service to ASCA.

 

 Duane also displayed the gift from the city of Kisakata - a beautiful cedar wood vase and stand.

 Vera Oakes and Jeanne Robeson related some interesting experiences they had in Japan.

 Duane distributed pins to those officers/patrons who had not received them or that needed corrections.

          Significant Items:

                   The Golf Tournament reserve increased by about $600.00 as sponsorship income has come in.

                   $156.00 was paid for the officer and patron member Sister City pins.

 

VICE PRESIDENT:  John Lovric reported his continued work on the golf tournament.  Don attended the Anacortes City Council to get approval for our proposed sign at the flagpoles. The Council’s decision will be continued until another meeting.

 

SIDNEY, B.C.:  Andy Hanson reported for Judy Jewell.  Susan Simosko, of Sidney, BC has requested an Anacortes band to play in their independence day parade, June 30 – July 2.

 

KISAKATA, JAPAN: Cora sent apologies for not being able to attend tonight.  In her absence, Mark asked that any adults that were on the recent Kisakata trip and did not pay their transportation cost to/from SEATAC, please send it as soon as possible.

Anne discussed the plans to provide a tea ceremony demonstration at the 2005 Arts Festival.

Duane told about Kyudo (martial arts archery) of which he learned from his home-stay people in Kisakata.

 

VELA LUKA, CROATIA:  Nikki reported that the four Croatian students are very excited about coming to Anacortes, arriving at the end of July.  The committee is presently finalizing the process of getting families for home-stays. 

   Plans are still being made for the Kumpnija group to come to the Anacortes 2006 Arts Festival.  The committee is researching possible grants.  They plan to apply for a $5000.00 grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.       Kristen LeMieux is also looking into possible grant sources.

   Plans for the CroatiaFest are progressing.   October 2, 2005 is the date.  MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

 

LOMONOSOV, RUSSIA:  Suzanne Harris presented plans for the visit of ten Kalinka members to Anacortes.  Please let her know if you want to host a guest.  A budget was proposed to pay one-half of their transportation costs.  To raise the needed funds, the committee is producing a COOK BOOK.   Up to five favorite recipes from each member are requested.  Please list the ingredients, followed by directions in paragraph form.  Please MAIL BY MAY 16TH  to ASCA, Box 1464, Anacortes, WA 98221.  Willy Evans will do the data entries and Anne Martin-McCool the artwork.  The committee is expecting 250-300 recipes.  These should be recipes that are very “special” to your family.

 

GOLF TOURNAMENT:  Duane reminded the members that we need 128 golfers, 36 “hole” sponsors and as many “Corporate Sponsors” as possible.  The net goal is $10,000.00.  He displayed the Doyle Geer Golf Tournament posters and asked that members call him, or members of the committee, regarding “high traffic” locations where the posters might be posted.

 

MISCELLANEOUS:  Don reported that the Croatian Club held a very special dinner with pork/lamb roasted out doors.

 

PROGRAM: Doug Everhart again introduced the speaker, Robert Geczi, who narrated a POWER POINT PRESENTATION about his home: Romania.
