MINTUES:Don moved, and Mark seconded, a motion to accept the July 7th minutes as distributed. The motion carried.
MISCELLANEOUS: Duane announced the showing of "Freedom from Despair" at the Croatian American Club on September 11, 2005. This is a film directed by Brenda Brkusic about Croatia's struggle for independence from the repression of Tito's Yugoslavia to the brutality of the Balkan War.
The showing will be preceded by lunch at 1:00 pm. Tickets - $10.00 donation, per person, at the door. Call Anka Kolega for more information, Ph: 293-6774 or Bret Lunsford: info@knw-yr-own.com
Director Brenda Brkusic will be present to further discuss this piece of modern history.
Don reviewed the possibility of another flag pavilion at the "ferry end" of town. He displayed an auto decal that can be made available for Anacortes Sister Cities Association members at approximately $3.50 each.
Don further reported that the new brochure for membership application should be ready soon. He then announced that Robert Geczi, who presented a program on Romania to a past ASCA membership meeting, is anxious to lead a tour to that country in August 2006. The cost, etc. will be available next month. Members interested in this tour should contact Don to let him know.
Duane reviewed the need for a "caring committee" and thanked Joyce, Theda and all others that have been so caring of Scott and Jack Greenewald.
Members who would like to help out occasionally by providing a dinner for a homebound member should call Joyce at 293-2439. Currently Scott is in Oakland, CA with his sister and Jack is "just fine".

Significant Items:
The golf tournament net profit was $10,099.00 and most of the income has been distributed.
A $4000.00 donation was received from an anonymous benefactor.
Our Kisakata visitors who performed at the tea ceremony and calligraphy events at the Arts Festival donated their profits of $452.00 to the Kisakata Student Exchange fund. In addition, the students earned $312.00.
We reimbursed Judy Jewell for Town Crier expenses of $785.02, and received from the city $474.08 under our tourism promotion contract. This was reimbursement for Judy's earlier payment, and we will now bill the city an additional $523.35 for this second payment. That will effectively use up the total of $1000.00 approved by the city.
The board authorized an expenditure of $200.00 to help reimburse one of the Croatian students for the theft from her luggage that was discovered when she returned to Vela Luka.
$1273.00 was paid for the new ASCA signs at both ends of town and $277.00 for the association's annual liability insurance.
Restructuring of the Savings Account: The Board distributed $3700.00 of the Golf Tournament income to the Kisakata Exchange Fund (this represents the $3000.00 provided by the ASC, the tournament underwriter, plus ten% of additional profits in accordance with a formula established by the board last year. We are holding money received from advance sales of the cookbook to pay for the cost of printing the book. Also, we have transferred into the Lomonosov fund, the amount of money we have promised to support the travel expenses of our Russian guests (less the $2000.00 already sent).
SIDNEY: Judy reported that she has been very busy with Town Crier Competitions. She won FIRST PLACE in one competition; SECOND PLACE in one and THIRD PLACE in two.
KISAKATA: Cora and Anne Martin expressed their thanks to all who helped in the recent visit of our children and adult Kisakata "folks". A special "thanks" to Diane who gave her "all" for the tea ceremony/calligraphy events at the Depot during the Arts Festival.
VELA LUKA: Nikki expressed her thanks to all who helped to make a great visit for the two students from Vela Luka, Croatia. She also expressed a "thanks" to all who helped to replace the stolen items from the luggage of the student. She read a "thank you" letter from Anita and Petra's parents. She announced that a trip for 16-17 year old Anacortes students is a tentative plan for next year. All interested students should contact Nikki. Nikki reminded the members of the Croatiafest at the Seattle Center on October 2. More information later.

Out of 300 books ordered, 88 have been sold to date.
Duane displayed a shirt with an up-side-down ASCA logo on it that was presented by John Lastar who suggested that Duane could just "look down" and see it right side up. Duane indicated that there is a need for help in reorganizing the display cases at City Hall. Please call him if you will help.
