The Kisakata students raised an additional $727.00, including $300.00 from the Soroptomists.

We submitted a request to the City of Anacortes for $2200.00 in Tourism funding for the Town Crier program.  We would be expected to provide matching funds of $1100.00.

QUILT RAFFLE DRAWING:  After much shaking of the raffle tickets by President Duane, the winning ticket was drawn and James H. Sheldrop is the winner of the beautiful quilt with a Japanese flair made by Kathy Ives.

VICE PRESIDENT:  John Lovric reported that the Newsletter would be out soon.  He also reviewed the need for updating the ASCA display at City Hall.  John will advise members when their help is needed to accomplish the update.

ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT:  Don reviewed the car window decal order that will be placed through a Sidney, BC company.  100 each ordered will cost $260.00.  They will be sold for $3.50 each, complimentary to new members and overseas guests.  The decals will be available at the November meeting.  He reported that the details of the Romanian trip are forthcoming.

SIDNEYJudy circulated a sign-up sheet for members to indicate their interest in participating in the Sidney Holiday events, November 26-28, 2005 and our Christmas events between 12-2 to 12-4, 2005.  Members were also encouraged to sign-up to homestay Sidney members during their visits.  They are expected next month and will bring the decals.  Judy invited all to attend the Veterans Day Celebration on Nov. 11, 2005, at Causland Park.

KISAKATA:  No report.  Duane read a letter from Mayor Tadanaga dated August 19, 2005 (written after their return to Kisakata) in which he reviewed the situation of the three cities that are combining into one, and emphasized that our sister city and student exchange relationship will continue “forever”!

VELA LUKA: Nikki reported on the CroatiaFest held in Seattle, WA.  She encouraged members to go to: www.pbase.com/jal

For pictures, etc. of the event. Nikki and John displayed posters of documented history of some of our Croatian families in Anacortes. Nikki indicated that the student applications for the trip to Vela Luka in 2006 are available until Oct. 31, 2005.  It is planned that our students will go with the visiting Vela Luka students as they return home. Plans are being developed to bring the Kumpanija Sword Dancers and the Klapa Music Group to Anacortes for CroatiaFest in 2006. Duane and Nikki are seeking grants from various sources for the $30,000.00 approximate cost. Members are encouraged to begin planning/thinking about homestays.
