Significant Items:
We paid out the balance of the Kisakata Student Exchange Fund to the families of the students, including $4077.75 of golf tournament revenue. That amount represents the $3100.00 donated by the tournament underwriter, the Anacortes Youth Sports Coalition, plus 10% of the other profits. The Board adopted this formula several years ago. We also distributed the funds in the Vela Luka Student Exchange Fund as needed for their expenses and transferred the balance to the Vela Luka Committee.
The funds in the Romania trip account were disbursed except for the administrative fees, which were held until the travelers actually departed. That balance was transferred into general funds following the end of this reporting period. The net income after expenses from the trip was about $1300.00
We paid $254 for our general liability insurance policy annual renewal.
We paid the Anne Martin McCool Gallery $826.15 for a painting by Anne that was presented to Kiskata as our gift.
Cookbook sales for the period were $352.50.
The City reimbursed us $316.03 in Town Crier expenses. An additional $90.00 is still forthcoming (the underpayment was due to a clerical error by the City).
We paid a number of bills in connection with the Kumpanija visit and received a considerable amount of money for sponsorships and program ads. Mark will prepare a summary when the visit is over, as we do with the Golf Tournament.
Vice President: No report
Assistant to the President: No report because Don Lapworth is in Romania.
Sidney, BC:
David announced that Masha of Lomonosov, Russia (age 21) has married a US Diplomat (age 35) and now lives in Frankfurt, Germany.
There is still no Anacortes Chairperson in the Sidney organization; however, David proposed to the Sidney group participation in an annual barbeque with Anacortes hosting, first on April 14, 2007, and Sidney hosting in 2008. He further proposed it to be a Pot Luck and each participant pay $5.00 in addition. The Sidney group is excited and will participate on April 14th, 2007.
A delegation from Sidney, BC will be traveling to Niimi, Japan for a possible Sister City agreement.
David reminded us that November 26th is the Christmas parade in Sidney, BC, at 5 pm. Please call him and make your requests for homestays - specify if you know someone and want to stay with them - and the Sidney group will begin to arrange homestays for all other Anacortes participants.
Kisakata, Japan: Cora Lijek reported that the Japanese Committee has contacted the Anacortes School District regarding student travel to Japan – with two years of training (language and culture) and trip in 2008.
The Japanese Women’s Club is contacting Taiko Drummers in various Western Washington cities to secure drums for the Taiko Drummers from Kisakata who are most anxious to come to Anacortes. Cora will check on the volume and weight of the drums.
Lomonosov, Russia: Suzanne Harris reported that some French, German and Russian Sister City groups are planning a trip to visit WWII important locations in 2007. Willy reported that the Shipwreck Days earnings were approximately $230.00. She reported that our cookbook “Among Friends,” has been entered in a contest with first prize: $3000.00, 2nd: $1500.00 and 3rd: $750.00.
Program: Duane showed a selection of pictures of the recent group trip to Kisakata, Japan with “more to come” in the November meeting.
Vela Luka, Croatia: Duane presented and Nikki described pictures of the Vela Luka Kumpanija Sword Dancers and Klapa Vela Luka Singers in a Vela Luka performance, which have been presented to various Service Clubs in the Anacortes area. The pictures included those taken during ASCA members’ visits to Vela Luka in 2003 and 2004.
She announced that Mayor Gugic would accompany the sword dancers and singers. He will meet with other mayors in Western Washington while here.
A welcome party will be held at the Depot Arts Center on September 29, at 6 pm. Each guest will pay $10.00 for the festivities.
A farewell party will be held at the Croatian Club on October 13th.
Our job now is to SELL TICKETS…not only to the Anacortes production on September 30th, 7:00 pm, at Brodniak Hall, but also to the other productions which each will have different local talent supplementing Kumpanija and Klapa:
