ANACORTES SISTER CITIES ASSOCIATION

General Membership Meeting

October 5, 2006

President Duane Clark called the meeting to order at 7:08 pm and welcomed new members and the guests from Croatia.  He commended all members who volunteered to work (in any capacity) for the Kumpanija – Klapa Vela Luka Singers performances.

Duane displayed the beautiful vest and “Honorary Award” presented to the Association by the Croatian guests.

MINUTES:  The acceptance/correction of the minutes of the last meeting was postponed until the November meeting.

TREASURER: The Treasurer’s report was postponed until the November meeting.

ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT:  Don Lapworth presented Duane with a mask made by the children of Cormaric, Romania during an after-school program.  He indicated that a similar gift will be presented to Mayor Dean Maxwell.

SIDNEY:  David Rapella, Chairman, announced that members need to signup for the Sidney, BC Christmas Parade on Sunday, November 26th at 5 pm - and for Homestays, if desired.  The dates are: November 26 depart Anacortes on the 7:45 am Ferry, march in the parade at 5 pm, spend the night and return on November 27th on the 11:40 am ferry, arriving in Anacortes at 2:45 pm.

Please call David (588-8781) to get your name on the list to march and also to your homestay assigned.  (If you have a friend with whom you want to stay, please give David the name so that he can pass it on to the Sidney folks).

KISAKATA TOWN, Nikaho CityCo-Chair Cora Amburn-Lijek thanked Sam Gebala for making CD copies of photos from this summer's trip for all of the travelers.  Cora asked those in attendance to see her after the meeting for their copy.  Sam is working on the November program.  The adult travelers will meet at David Rapella's for a potluck dinner on Thursday, October 19 at 6:30 p.m. to look at the power point and plan the presentation.  There will be an orientation meeting for students interested in applying for the next Kisakata Town Exchange on Wednesday, October 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Center.  Cora thanked Vera Oakes for being the facility monitor.

Art Chair, Anne Martin McCool was not in attendance; Cora reminded the members that there is an art walk tomorrow night, Friday, Oct. 6 from 6 to 8 p.m.  It was also announced that Klapa Vela Luka will be singing at the Depot at 6 p.m. tomorrow night.

VELA LUKA:  As the Croatian guests arrived, David Rapella (hospitality chairman) presented each with an Anacortes Sister Cities Association pin. Nikki announced that tomorrow, October 6th, the Croatian guests would like to go to Port Townsend and drivers are needed.

LOMONOSOV: No report

PROGRAM:  Duane presented a delightful and “up-to-the-minute” Power Point of the Kumpanija Sword Dancers and Klapa Vela Luka Singers.

NOTE:  ALL INTERESTED MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO THE FAREWELL PARTY FOR THE KUMPANIJA SWORD DANCERS AND KLAPA VELA LUKA SINGERS AT THE CROATIAN CLUB ON OCTOBER 13TH.  BRING DESSERT AND COME FOR 6:30 PM DINNER.
