Significant January Items:
The Association had gross revenues of $127,830.03 in 2006.  Just over half of this was attributable to Kumpanija, but even aside from that we have reached the point where annual reports to the IRS are required and the complexity of record-keeping exceeds what can reasonable be done without a more sophisticated system.   The board has therefore authorized the purchase of Quickbooks for Non-Profits.  This should make recordkeeping more manageable and will also automate preparation of the IRS reports.
The law regarding charitable contributions has been changed. Effective January 1, 2007, the documentation requirements have been toughened.  The new software will also help us meet this requirement.
The city approved our full request of $2200.00 for Town Crier activities in 2007.  This is an increase from the $1500.00 received last year.
We received $95.00 from employees at Anacortes High School in memory of Dolly Kager.
We deposited $565.00 in dues income.
The New Years Eve event at the Depot generated $162.86 in net profit to ASCA.
Duane commended Mark for his careful bookkeeping and recognized the need for a new computer program to meet the reporting requirements of the IRS.  He then reviewed the many events of 2006, the funds generated and the friends made.

VICE PRESIDENT:  John Lovric reported that the City Hall Display Cabinet has been fixed, reorganized and will be “updated” at a later date.  Please let John or Duane know if you have items that you wish to have returned – or items that you wish to display.

ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT: : Don Lapworth announced that Vera Oakes has sent three boxes of books to Comarnic, Romania for their Boys and Girls Club. She collected and mailed 20 lbs. in October, 2006 and 40lbs in January, 2007.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:  Duane review the plans for THE ANACORTES SENIOR COLLEGE (an independent entity and strongly supported by the Anacortes School District.)  He used a Power Point presentation to review aspects of the opportunities for all people over 50 year old.  He introduced Beth Prins who answered questions and reviewed the planning program.  A course will last 6 weeks, meeting 2 hrs per week and will be held at the Middle School.  Cost will be:  $25.00 – membership and $25.00 per class.  (There is a $500.00 lifetime tuition available.)  There is no college credit but a WEALTH of information and enjoyable learning experiences….Explore stimulating courses…special events and trips that broaden your mind and open your eyes. To learn more go to: SeniorCollege@ASC103.org (The site may not be up yet, but will be soon…keep trying).
