VICE PRESIDENT: no report
ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT: Duane reported for Don Lapworth

The Sidney sister city members were unable to bring the “little ferry” to Anacortes for the Anacortes Christmas Parade. KISIKATA: Co-chairperson, Cora Lijek, reported that co-chair, Anne Martin McCool, is up and running again. She also reported that the Kisakata-bound students participated in the Christmas Bazaar at Cap Sante Court and earned over $500.00. The students will continue their language and cultural class shortly - for their preparation to go to Kisakata the summer of 2008. Teresa Lewis, her sister and Jim and Marcia Hardy will be the chaperones for this trip. There will not be an adult trip this summer…watch for an e-mail regarding future trip plans.

VELA LUKA: Nikki Lovric, chairperson, reported that students are being sought from Vela Luka interested in visiting Anacortes…and Anacortes students interested in visiting Vela Luka. She encouraged anyone wanting to order Croatian olive oil to please e-mail her as soon as possible, because she is planning a trip to Seattle to purchase same. Anyone interested in a trip to Vela Luka, please let her know….e-mail: nikki@windermere.com. Duane announced that he received a beautiful “Happy Holiday Greeting” card from the Vela Luka Sister City group, which he will bring to the next meeting.
LOMONOSOV: Chairman, Don Lapworth, absent. Maria Papritz reported that she has received communications from Marina Akhromova and Tatiana regarding their fond memories of their visit to Anacortes. Duane encouraged all members to see the latest issue of TIME MAGAZINE which features the MAN OF THE YEAR-Putin…and reviews the current atmosphere in Russia.
PRESIDENT CLARK: Duane reviewed the tentative plans made some years ago when the Flag Pavilion was installed on Highway 20, coming in to Anacortes. That plan was to also install a Flag Pavilion at the Ferry entrance which has been delayed because of uncertainty of the rebuilding of the Ferry Terminal (which looks like it may be delayed indefinitely). He reviewed the approximate cost of the Highway 20 Pavilion as $10,000.00 total – of which, ASCA costs were approximately $3,000.00 in material and flags. The Kiwanis Service Club provided the flag poles and the City did the cement work. Duane has spoken to the mayor regarding this proposal and he was very supportive.
The proposal will be the subject of the next ASCA Board Meeting in January. More information will be forthcoming.
MEMBERSHIP: Diane Davidson, chairperson, is now collecting 2008 membership dues. All members are encouraged to pay their dues as soon as possible so that events can be planned can be made and a budget developed. Diane reported that 32 memberships for 2008 have been paid, so far.
PROGRAM: Bill and Ann Testerman presented Power Point pictures of their Northern Half of the Appalachian Trail which they completed May 1 to July 29, 2007. (They accomplished the Southern Half of the Appalachian Trail in 2006). The participating audience was spell-bound with interest and admiration for the Testerman’s experience. (See attachment: Statistics – Northern Half of the Appalachian Trail).
The meeting was adjourned at 8:46 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
